Tiki Oasis, the original "Tiki Weekender" gathering celebrates its 11th year with a "South of the Border," old Tijuana style party happening this summer in San Diego, California August 18-21. Tiki Oasis is a family produced event and the only event of its kind on the west coast. It's a non-stop, multi-faceted four days packed full of festivities.

This year's Tiki Oasis theme:
"South of the Border"

Exotica music - the cornerstone of Tiki - owes a lot to our brethren to the south - Mexico and Latin America. In fact Latin music has always been a rich part of American popular music from Cha Cha and Merengue to Mambo kings, Latin Jazz and Samba to Rock En Espanol. We feel North America's embracing of Latin music piqued in the mid-1960s when the debonnaire, Latin-styled trumpet player Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass band challenged The Beatles on the Billboard charts*. It is Herb's romanticized Mexico that we seek to celebrate this year at Tiki Oasis!

Celebrate Tiki!
In addition to celebrating the Tiki lifestyle with a weekend of live music, burlesque, DJs and more, Tiki Oasis fuses escapist and educational realms with explorations into the visual arts, mixology, and music symposiums, vintage automotive and fashion exhibitions, children's activities, plus a free daytime shopping bazaar with over 70 vendors.

Tiki Oasis Art Show to benefit WILDCOAST

Every year, Tiki Oasis presents a themed group art show and donates a percentage of all proceeds to a worthy cause chosen by the event orgnaizers. This year, Tiki Oasis' "Burros, Black Velvets and Other Delights" will benefit WILDCOAST, founded in 2000 to protect and conserve some of the most ecologically important coastal wildlands, lagoons, and marine ecosystems that remain in California and throughout Baja California. WILDCOAST has successfully conserved more than 1.8 million acres of coastal wildlands and wildlife habitats. WiLDCOAST works with local communities in San Diego to protect and restore their beaches and open spaces through hands-on restoration projects, cleanups, environmental education and community involvement.

History of Tiki Oasis
Originally conceived as a fundraiser to support the rehabilitation of the Palm Springs Caliente tropics Motel, Tiki Oasis outgrew its original 88 room location and Southern California-centric following and in 2006 moved to its current location in San Diego where the event sells out a 400 room hotel and draws over 2500 attendees from all over the world.

Part Mid-Century preservation and education, part Polynesian Pop celebration and 100% party paradise, Tiki Oasis is the creation of San Francisco couple Otto and Baby Doe von Stroheim. Otto is a revered San Francisco DJ and promoter and the former publisher of Tiki News magazine, the first publication which encouraged the revival and preservation of Tiki and its lifestyle. Baby Doe is an acclaimed choreographer whose expertise is in historic dance trends; her specialties include '60s go-go and retro-burlesque. Both bring their passions for Tiki and desire to preserve what they feel are timeless aspects of pop culture from times past to the public through their long-time experience in event coordination and promotion.
